The ingredients needed to make Collards:
- Get 5 pounds collard greens
- Provide 2-1/2 tablespoons Pink Himalayan salt
- Get 1/3 cup distilled white vinegar
- Provide 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoon sugar
- Use as needed water
- Take 3 tablespoon bacon Drippings
- Take 1/4 pound Bacon
Instructions to make Collards:
- Look over and wash the leaves. Remove thick stems.
- Add bacon drippings
- In a pot add salt, sugar, 2 cups water and vinegar.
- Put on to heat. Add bacon and bring to boil
- When the broth is boiling good add the collards. This allows the greens to shrink and fit in the pot faster.
- Stir every 20 minutes don't allow them to clump up
- After 1-1/2 hours mix the remaining sugar with water and add to the collards. Keep adding water as needed. I think I used a gallon or more total.
- Add the rest of the seasonings stir well
