The ingredients needed to cook Vellayappam:
  1. Prepare 1 cup raw rice
  2. Provide 1/2 cup parboiled rice rice cooked
  3. Use 1/2 cup coconut grated
  4. Take 1/2 cup coconut milk
Instructions to make Vellayappam:
  1. Soak raw rice in water for 2 hours.
  2. Drain the water and grind the rice with cooked rice, coconut.
  3. Grind finely and transfer to a vessel add sugar and keep in room temperature covered for 6 hours.
  4. If batter is too thick add water to bring to the pouring consistency.
  5. Add coconut milk 1 hour prior to cooking.
  6. Add salt to tast
  7. Heat appa kadai pour one big spoon of batter, swirl and keep covered and cook till done.

Vellayappam is unique and special with raw rice ground with grated coconut and after fermentation with yeast, cooked as pancakes.
